Tuition

Online
$100 a lesson. 60 minutes, paid per lesson.
In person
$150 a lesson. 60 minutes at your home, paid per lesson.
First call
Free. 10 minutes on Zoom, before anything is paid.
Twice a week
Two lessons, each paid. $100 each online, $150 each in person.
Between lessons
My online material, with the review and homework after each lesson, is included in tuition, for every student.

Prices are per child. There is no registration fee, no subscription and no package to buy, and there are no group lessons.

The lessons

Every lesson is one-on-one, 60 minutes, at a fixed weekly time. Chess, mathematics or both, for ages 4 to 18.

With one lesson a week, you can split the lessons between chess and math in any pattern agreed when you enroll, at no extra cost.

Two lessons a week, either chess twice or chess and math once each, are two lessons, each paid. It takes two weekly times, is offered only when both are open, and has no discount.

The first call

Price
Free. 10 minutes on Zoom, including for families who want lessons at home.
Booking
I send the booking link myself, and only when I have a time that fits. Nothing is paid at booking.
The call
Your child and a parent join. I meet your child, and you and I talk about what they need.
After
If it is a fit, I offer a fixed weekly time, held for 72 hours. There is no obligation, and billing starts with the first lesson.

Billing

How
Per lesson, by card. Your card is kept on file, and each lesson is charged on the day it happens, with a receipt by email. Nothing is charged in advance.
When
You save the card when you enroll, before the first lesson. The first charge is on the day of the first lesson.
Failed payment
Lessons pause until it is paid.

Rescheduling and cancellations

You move or cancel
With 24 hours’ notice, the lesson is not charged. If you want to move it, I make it up within 30 days at a time I have open.
Late notice
With less than 24 hours’ notice, or after a no-show, the lesson is charged.
Unwell on the day
The lesson can move online at the same time if your child is up to it. An in-person lesson moved online this way keeps its price.
I cancel
The lesson is not charged. If you like, I make it up within 30 days. If I move an in-person lesson online, for weather or work, it is charged at the online price.

Stopping

There is no contract and no minimum term. Stop any time: tell me, and there is nothing else to cancel. The 24 hours’ notice above still applies to the next lesson.

Your weekly time is kept while lessons continue. Stopping releases it, and rejoining depends on my availability.

Siblings

Each child has their own lesson at the full price. There are no shared lessons.

Siblings get back-to-back times when possible. In person, both lessons happen in one visit, at $150 each.

When weekly times are tight, siblings of current students choose first.

In person and safety

Where
At your home in Manhattan, Hudson or Bergen County. Outside those areas, lessons are online.
When
At the times I can travel to you. I confirm them in my reply.
At home
A parent or guardian is in the house for every lesson.
Online
Lessons run on Zoom and are not recorded unless you ask.
